Mari Hayman
The Gower Peninsula has always fascinated me. As well as walking and swimming, I have flown in a light aircraft and taken to the sea in a boat to explore the coast. Most of the work in this exhibition has been painted ‘on the spot’ as a response to the forms, light and movement of the land, sky, sea and people. My studio base from 2005-6 was the coastguard Look-Out near Worms Head and I currently work from a unit in Swansea Marina. Watercolours are light to carry and good for capturing fleeting light etc., while oils and acrylics are suitable for building up effects with deeper colours and tones. Branching out into architectural glass I use various processes, including painting and kiln forming on to plaster moulds. As an experienced teacher and community artist, I also enjoy encouraging others to be creative.
